Oil Up For A Good Night’s Sleep

trouble-sleeping

I must admit I have really developed a dependence on watching television at night to help me sleep. I started this habit after my divorce last year and I really hate it. I stay up later than I would normally and I never feel rested in the morning.

My friend recommended I try using some essential oils to induce sleepiness at night. So I bought some chamomile oil to try. I plan on trying it tonight and going without the television. I really think it could work!

No Bites This Time Around

I love summer, but I hate mosquitoes, and it seems like every summer I get bitten to death. I hate the idea of using synthetic bug spray to repel the biting bugs, so I have typically worn long clothing to avoid bites. This is a problem because long clothing gets annoying on hot days.

This year I have decided to try using citronella oil. Citronella oil is commonly used in aromatherapy and works well to keep mosquitoes at bay. Both citronella candles and oil work well as insect repellants.

Hydrosol

Author: RelaxYrNose

LAVENDERSometimes traveling, whether by land, air, or sea, can be a harrowing experience. The different smells can make me dizzy. I make sure I keep myself relaxed and my travels stress-free by bringing a lavender hydrosol with me.

I spray it everywhere and inhale the mist. Just a spray gives me instant relaxation. It’s also great as a room fragrance, especially when I’m stuck in a hotel room that has that faint mildew smell.

Moisture Miracle

Author: RelaxYrNose

skin moisturizerMy skin gets chapped, chaffed and dry during the cold months, so I am always on the lookout for a good skin moisturizer. I was using an anti-aging formula that was supposed to decrease cellulite and tighten the skin. But, after a few weeks of using the stuff I hadn’t noticed any visible results, and the product seemed to make my skin even drier than it was before. I needed a quick fix.

While shopping at my local health food store I noticed that many of the skin products contained grape-seed oil. I decided I would give it a try. I bought some grape-seed oil lotion and applied some after my nightly shower. My skin felt so soft and smooth, and the lotion had a clean fresh scent. The next morning my skin was still hydrated and supple. My husband even commented on how soft my hands were!

massage oils

Cedar wood oil is used for stress reduction. In ancient times Cedar wood oil was used by Egyptians to preserve mummies. It also works well as an expectorant and antiseptic. The aroma of Cedar wood has a woodsy, spicy and medicinal odor. This pure essential oil is great to use in massage oils and can be used to treat diseases, like arthritis, eczema and acneChamomile is known for its calming affects. It is often used to ease symptoms of irritable-bowel syndrome and menstrual cramps. Insomnia and anxiety sufferers can benefit from the sedative qualities of chamomile. It is also an antiseptic used to sooth skin irritations.

Cajeput pure essential oil smells a bit like camphor and is pale yellow in color. Muscle aches, oily skin, asthma, coughs, bronchitis and sinusitis may be relieved with cajeput oil use.

It’s the Smell

Aromatherapy works so well to alleviate the tension that is created from my work life.  When I get home, I just love to have the option to light some candles and reflect.  I have added a new element to my aromatherapy schedule which is meditation.

When I meditate, I can feel a weight being lifted off of my shoulders.  It is really enhanced by lighting candles and having the wonderful smells swirl around me.  I am starting to gain control in my life again with these rudimentary procedures.

Desert Life

skin.jpgOkay so Los Angeles is hardly a desert, but it sure does feel that way on my skin sometimes.  I tried all kinds of skin moisturizers until I found the one that worked.  I needed something to really lock the moister in so that I could remove the flakey look and regain some vitality.

I read that the number one cause of old looking skin is lack of moisture and if that is the case then I am headed right down that road.  Now I moisturize twice a day and already I am seeing some positive affects.

Everyday when I come from work, the first thing I do after I put down my belongings is start the tub.  It is my happy thought when I am sitting at the office.  In order to get the knots out of my back, the best thing to do is curl up in the tub with a good band playing and relax.  One thing that enhances my bathing experience is a good aromatherapy candle to put me into an even nice mood.

Memory of Scent

Scent is one of those little thought of things that has a huge affect on who we are as human beings.  When we have experiences, most of them are stored in our long term memory bank.  Even if we cannot have each memory in the forefront of our minds, those memories are stored for later recollection.  The reason why they are needed for later musings is an evolutionary one.  When a primitive being would experience something, let’s say a stomach ache from a toxic fruit that is stored so that later when she is reminded of that same thing, she knows to put it down and walk away.  It could be a color, a specific feel or even a scent.  Aromatherapy an example of the scents awesome powers.
